The 3 Best Hostels in Naples

Let’s jump right into the boutique hostels in Naples.

  1. Hostel of the Sun
  2. La Controra Hostel Naples
  3. Tric Trac Hostel

We put all three accommodation on the map, you will find the map at the end of the article.

1. Hostel of the Sun

Hostel of the Sun has been open for more than 10 years and is a huge hit with travellers from around the world.

It’s easily our #1 hostel in Naples and we’re excited to share with you why!

Here are 4 reasons why this has been voted one of best hostels in the world at the annual Hoscar Awards:

  1. Incredibly warm atmosphere
  2. Super location
  3. Spacious & comfortable rooms
  4. Welcoming & friendly staff

We really enjoy rhe vibrant colours of the common areas which make it feel really homey and inviting.

The living room is well set up if you want to relax. There are sofas, a big TV and an attached dedicated games room which is ideal for breaking the ice with new friends.

It’s a pretty cosy space and the main get-together area of the hostel.

There’s also a really cute little onside bar here. Grab your favourite drink and let the fun times roll!

When it comes to rooms it’s not surprise that Hostel of the Sun often gets likened to a hotel.

Mixed dorms come with 4, 6 and 8-beds – take your pick.

Otherwise, couples and anyone that enjoys more privacy can choose between twin, double, quad & quintuple private rooms. Many of them come with a private bathroom, too.

To help you save money there is also a shared kitchen onsite.

Location: In the safest part of Naples city center, just a few steps from the ferry terminal. The bus terminal for Pompei and Alfami Coast is also very closeby.

Live the Italian dream at La Controra Hostel Naples. It’s simple once you see what they have to offer.

For example, there is…

  • Palms and citrus trees to sit under
  • A cafe bar (with free breakfast) and
  • Free Wi-Fi

The shared kitchen here is certainly ideal for testing out your pizza skills. Either that or enjoy the snack machine as a fall back.

Good to know: you’ll actually be surrounded by amazing pizza places, so no worries there.

Looking for some fun trips to join? You’re in luck!

The team here specialises in walking tours and boat journeys in the bay. Just ask at reception for some options, prices etc.

We have to say, we’re quite impressed with the room choices on offer here.

It’s the kind of hostel where you’ll come across all sorts of traveller types, from every corner of the globe.

From double and family rooms, to mixed dorms and a twin for friends that enjoy some space.

The smaller 4 and 6-bed mixed dorms come with an en-suite for that added comfort.

Though the rooms are basic, the sheer size and lovely big windows make up for it. The beds come ready-made, too.

Location: Certosa di San Martino is around a 25-minute walk, and the airport is only 20-minutes from La Controra. The closest trainfr station is Salvator Rosa station.

3. Tric Trac Hostel

Let’s continue on a high and introduce our third hostel in this guide; Tric Trac Hostel.

Aside from the fun name, this accommodation is full to the brim with great social spaces for anyone that enjoys taking advantage of staying indoors.

For one thing, there is a wonderful terrace and solarium for enjoying the fresh air and views.

There’s also a handy kitchen, modern living room and dining area.

Because of the set up, we reckon this is an ideal space for catching up with work and emails.

But first things first; you’ll need to drop your bags by your bed before the exploring commences.

Here are your room choices:

  • 4 and 8-bed mixed dorms
  • 4-bed female dorm
  • Family room w/ private bathroom (4 people)

Quirky fact: some of the bunks have a stack of 3 beds, so we hope you’re ok with heights!

A good thing to note is that staff are at hand 24 hours a day, and there is no curfew.

It’s the little details that really go a long way, right?

We thought you’d agree. So to make you even happier let us mention the free breakfast, board games and musical instruments for you to use.

Whether you’re looking to socialise or enjoy time alone, you can’t go wrong at Tric Trac.

Location: Located in Piazza Santa Maria la Nova, in the heart of the historic center of Naples. This super handy location makes it easy to reach all of the main attractions.

Of course, there are always cheap hostels. Forget hotels!

We think, it’s not worth it to go with the cheapest hostel out there.

The difference is usually 1-2€ ($1-2) per night, and a lot of amenities are not included. This can be breakfast or linen.

However, if you are traveling on a shoe-string budget and you wanna save every penny, there are ways to find the cheapest places in Naples.

CLOSED: Neapolitan Hostel & Bar

Update: Our former #1 hostel in Naples has permanently closed its doors.

NeapolitanTrips Hostel & Bar is a boutique space designed by young people who live in and love the city.

It’s such a wonderful hostel to start with, and by far the best choice in Naples.

“The furnishings of the hostel are inspired by the recovery of the Neapolitan industrial area.”

As you walk down the corridors, you can admire the works of 10 young Neapolitan artists and enjoy vintage design.

It’s quite obvious that the main aim of NeapolitanTrips is to entertain and integrate its guests.

Let us show you why:

  • On-site bar
  • A games area (darts, chess, monopoly)
  • A corner for music and
  • A reading area

The bar doesn’t just serve up tap beer and wines, but also cocktails and delicious Neapolitan coffee.

Super cool: Play something good on the piano or guitar and enjoy a free drink!

In the guest kitchen there is a beautiful pantry for you to use. It includes olive oil, salt, pasta, rice, fresh vegetables and tomatoes. How good is that?

Another great common area is the splendid outdoor terrace.

The up-cycled design is super cool and it really helps create a carefreeness vibe.

What about the room choices, we hear you ask?

Mixed dorms come with 4, 6 and 8-beds. There is also a 12-bed female dorm available.

If you’re travelling in a small group you can book your stay in the triple room which has one double bed and one single bed.

As you’ll notice, the rooms are big and each person gets a huge locker, light and plug socket by their bed.

Location: It’s less than a 5-minute walk on foot from Via Toledo. The centre of Naples and the port are within a 10-minute walk.
