More Hostels worth a mention

Backpacking tips for Sorrento

1. Parking spaces are very scarce and expensive, so if you want to rent a vehicle, consider renting a motorcycle.

2. Sorrento isnโ€™t known for its beaches. In fact, the small beaches close to the port are quite crowded in peak season. You might want to go to Marina Grande Beach in the nearby fishing village if you would like to take a dip in the lagoon’s small pool.

3. We highly recommend that you check the many walking tours to make every second of your trip count. During these tours, you can visit the cityโ€™s main squares, historic landmarks, and the cathedral Cloister of Saint Francis. Venture the narrow alleyways in Centro Storico and discover its many piazzas. On the way, you can stop to enjoy some street food or a cone of delicious gelato. Restaurants in this area tend to be cheaper and offer a more authentic atmosphere. This is the perfect way to immerse yourself in Italian culture and cuisine.

4. While you are exploring the town, check out the โ€œI Giardini di Cataldoโ€ garden. There is no entrance fee, and you can walk around the lemon grove or hide from the sun under the canopy of lemons. Here, you can also see how Limoncello is made and try the many flavours of the best Italian gelato in town. You will forget that you are just one street away from Sorrentoโ€™s main square.

5. Punta del Capo is yet another place where you can go to escape the crowds and the busy town. Itโ€™s a bit of a hike to get here, but the serenity of the sea and the incredible views are well worth it. Moreover, itโ€™s the perfect location to enjoy the sunsets while you are sipping a drink at the small bar at the end of the wooden walkway.

6. Donโ€™t forget to visit Vallone Dei Mulini, the abandoned mills covered in unique vegetation. The best way to get here is via the bridge north of Piazzo Tasso. Crossing this bridge, you will be able to witness the stunning views of the 700-year-old mills abandoned in the 1940s. Ever since then, the vegetation took over the valley, covering the mills with ferns and other unique plants.

7. And if youโ€™re enjoying some extra free time and are eager to discover more, you can take a train to Naples, a city of great culture and original spirit. Allow yourself to experience the cityโ€™s complex history, beauty and unique stories waiting for you to hear and see. And while youโ€™re here, donโ€™t miss out on trying the famous pizza Napoletana!
