Anyone who enjoys the warmth of the sun, the sea wind, and the refreshing dives in calm, clear seas would enjoy staying in Fuerteventura. Worldwide enthusiasts of βwind and waveβ sports recognise this islandβs superiority for surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing due to its exceptional environment, long days, year-round sun, ideal wind, and wave conditions. But if you decide to schedule your next adventure here, you should reside in the town of Corralejo, as this is the only place that can provide you with the best hostels in Fuerteventura.
Being the second largest of the Canary Islands, this tropical paradise offers much more than surfing opportunities. You can discover the bleak interior and be mesmerised by the beauty of its sweeping hills, or visit the communities to learn about the islandβs past.
In addition, youβll be granted a fantastic opportunity to try the tastiest seafood specialities, along with other regional meals. And if youβre a cheese lover, youβll be delighted to hear that the distinguished cheese served here has won several awards.

Fuerteventura is the first of the islands to be captured by Europeans, which means that this is quite a rich area- history-wise. Betancuria, the first capital city of the island, was created in 1404 and is one of the locations that everyone should see. If you want to be immediately transported back in time, walk through its streets and find the place designated as a βHistoric Siteβ. We bet that youβll be amazed by the architectureβs appearance.
Whatβs more, the island is home to several fascinating museums that may teach you about culture and identity that dates back to pre-Hispanic times. The early inhabitants, called βmajosβ or βmaxos,β left a lasting legacy, such as footprint engravings on stones atop Tindaya Mountain, which is revered as a significant prayer site.

Popcorn Beach, which lies southeast of Corralejo, is among the most magnificent beaches in the Canary Islands. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean (and a portion of Lanzarote), these beaches appear to be covered with popcorn, where in fact, this is the work of red algae.
How this works is that the calcites help paint the algae white as they dry up and die, leaving a popcorn-like appearance on the ground. Even though the algae are beautiful to look at, you shouldnβt take any since they play a very important part in the delicate ecosystem.

Backpacking tips forΒ FuerteventuraΒ
1. With scorching summers and fairly mild winters, Fuerteventura typically enjoys year-round sunlight. Although the subtropical environment provides sunshine throughout the whole year, the ideal months to explore are between June and September. Nevertheless, the winter months are still quite popular with tourists. The warmest month is August, with an average daily high temperature of 31 C and an average low temperature of 22 C.
2. Fuerteventura is perfect for those who love watersports. For those looking for the ultimate water adventure, the fact that you can swim at the beaches on Fuerteventuraβs east coast is a huge plus. The calmer sandy beaches on the east coast are ideal for a family outing, in contrast to the extremely wild beaches on the west coast, including Playa de Esquinzo, which have powerful rip currents. Whatβs more, the beaches in the east donβt have black sand, which for some people is the greatest fear.
3. You might find it helpful to know that the option to hire beach chairs and umbrellas is not available at every beach. Have excellent sun protection on hand if you intend to stay for a longer amount of time. Sunscreen is inexpensive and available everywhere. Even though you might not notice the sun or the heat because of the constant breeze, donβt forget to pack adequate beverages. You may, of course, make a stop at a grocery store en route to restock if required.
4. Take a stroll on the streets of Corralejo. Interestingly, wandering the narrow streets of Corralejo, taking pictures of the pastel-coloured houses, and discovering the town are just some of the things you can do there. What you should be aware of is that Corralejo is divided into two distinct areas: the older area, which is closer to the port, known for more relaxed, quiet nightlife, and the newer area, which is built like an Ibizan-style strip and has clubs, pubs, and a vibrant nightlife. This will probably be handy in planning how you will spend your free time on the island.
