Gran Canaria has become a popular destination to visit for people from all around the world due to its marvelous beaches and unique history. Let us tell you why this island is a tourist hotspot, including a list of some of the best hostels in Gran Canaria!

This article is part of our big guide to best hostels in Spain. We also put together the best hostels in Tenerife Island.

To start off with some history, Gran Canaria is the third largest island from the Canary Islands in Spain and the second most visited, just behind Tenerife. The island has a huge history dating back to even 500 BC, and many artifacts have been found across its caves.

It may come as a surprise that Gran Canaria’s traditions were lost somewhere around the 1400s. However, thanks to the commitment to locals, plenty of them have been revived, and you can still experience them to this day!

Hostelgeeks is an independent travel brand collecting the world’s greatest hostels. This means we do not belong to any booking or media agency. Make sure you read through all our guide to hostels.

Money-saving tip: Compare hostel prices with Hostelz.com. They compare prices from Hostelworld, Booking.com and others with 1 click.

Top 9 Best Hostels in Gran Canaria

Below we list the absolute top choices for the best hostels in Gran Canaria, Spain. The pandemic wiped out a few of the cool hostels, unfortunately. We still hope some of them will recover and come back over the next few years, who knows? Yet, there are still great ones. So opt for one that best serves your needs!

Best Hostels in Las Palmas

1. Albergue Gran Canaria

The Albergue Gran Canaria is a homey hostel, perfectly suited for all travellers and backpackers. It’s quite an authentic choice since it’s located in an old colonial house that has been further restored and renovated for accommodation purposes.

Based on a large number of backpackers, this hostel has some of the best services available! You can often see it noted as a “poshtel”, meaning it’s quite fancy – some might say it’s even better than a boutique hotel!

Amenities such as free breakfast, linens, towel service, and free WiFi are included, and there are a lot of activities to do in the common room if you decide to stay in. The shared kitchen especially has been dubbed as “immaculate”!

Location: It is nestled in the barrio of Pino Apolinario, just a 10-minute bus ride from the centre of Las Palmas.

The downside of the Albergue Gran Canaria is the location – it’s a bit far from the city centre. However, there are a lot of frequent buses that can take you there, as well as some cheap taxis. From there, you can visit some famous sites like the Casa – Museo Perez Galdos or the Plaza de Santo Domingo.
