Cyprus is divided into South and Norther. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is so-called a de facto state and is only recognized by Turkey – who were the ones invading this part of the island. During the 1974’s Turkish invasion of the Island, pretty much all Greek Cypriots were forced to move south, while the Turkish Cypriots went towards the North. The city of Varosha is still a ghost town you can now finally visit. It was once a resort located in the city of Famagusta, Cyprus.
It does not take long for you to recognize the Turkish influence of the Northern part of Cyprus. You could argue, it is basically a mini-turkey.
Average price for a bed: Hostels in Cyprus cost 15€ – 25€ per night for a bed in a dorm. A private room starts from 23€ up to 45€ per night. This is a rough average just to give you an idea.

- Important: Typically, you cannot take your rental car from the South to North Cyprus. You will need to leave it at the border and then hire a driver in the North.
- Because Cyprus is a member of the European Union, EU citizens will only need their passports to enter the country. People with US nationality can also enter with their passports and do not need to re-apply for a visa. However, non-European citizens must apply for a short-stay visa before entering the country.
- The bespoke island country features exquisite traditional cuisines and some of the tastiest dishes you’ll ever try. Some national specialities include souvlakia, shaftalia, afella, pita bread, loukoumades, and many more!

Flights to Cyprus?
There are two airports in Cyprus, one in Larnaca and one in Paphos. They are both about 45min from Limassol. Larnaca is the main airport, but a lot of low cost airlines fly to Paphos airport.
We recommend to check what airport is cheaper for you and then start your itinerary from there. It does not matter too much where you start, really.
