Quick Introduction to Amman
Average price for a bed: Hostels in Amman cost $10 – $15 per night for a bed in a dorm. A private room has an average price of around $42 per night. This is a rough average, just to give you an idea.
Prices always depend on the season and holidays. Please always check the exact rates on Hostelz.com or Hostelworld.com.
Check-In and Check-Out: The average check-in time is from 15:00 (3 pm), while the Check-Out time is before 11:00 (11 am). Hostels usually offer luggage storage in case you arrive earlier or leave later. Make sure you check if luggage storage is free or if there is an extra cost.
Must-try food: Shawarma and Falafel! You can have them in dish-style or sandwich style. Either way, they are delicious. Shawarma can be made out of chicken or meat, and falafel is usually made out of round chickpeas and broad beans.
These meals are some of the most affordable in the city, so this is also a budget tip (as long as you avoid the touristy restaurants).
Transportation: The most popular mode of transportation in Amman is taking the bus, as the prices are relatively low. Sometimes timetables or drop-off points aren’t mentioned. If that’s the case, ask the driver, and they should help you out.
Another way to get around is by using taxis. They are yellow with green panels on both front doors, and in Amman, they typically use meters (but always ask). Alternatively, you can use taxi apps like Careem or Uber.
Weather: Amman is made out of topographical diversity, with various hills and valleys. These all affect the weather, and it’s not uncommon to walk into a neighborhood where it’s sunny and encounter another where it’s almost cold and cloudy.

1. The Cabin
The Cabin lies in the heart of downtown Amman, and we think it’s one of the best places to stay for backpackers.
This is what you’ll find in this Amman hostel:
- 24/7 reception
- Common area
- Cozy terrace
- Kitchen
- Rooftop

One thing to keep in mind is that this hostel has an open-plan floor style, which means that the dorms -although in their little nook – lack doors.
Each bed does have curtains and lockers, which should provide most guests with enough privacy. If you don’t feel like you’d feel comfortable because of the lack of a door, definitely check out our other recommendations!
For those of you who will choose to stay here, don’t forget your earplugs – things quiet down by 11 pm, but if you want to sleep early, you might get annoyed by the sound of nearby conversations.
We like how friendly and accommodating their staff is, but our favorite part is the location.
Location: Amman hostel in the center of downtown. The area is packed with cafes and restaurants and is a short walk away from many sights like The Citadel, The Roman theater, and the Bazaar.

2. Battuta Hostel
Battuta Hostel is housed within an authentic Amman building that was reconverted into a hostel. Today, it serves as our favorite pick for social butterflies that visit the city.
Here, you’ll find the following facilities:
- Fitness center
- Shared lounge
- Garden (with a grill)
- Shared kitchen
- Sun terrace
- A small garden (with a hammock)

Each dorm has its private bathrooms and is quite spacious and open, with enough windows to allow ample sunlight.
The social aspect is enhanced by this hostel’s small nooks and crannies, where you’ll find fellow travelers engaging in games or discussions.
If you stay here, the staff will add you to the hostel WhatsApp group along with everyone else who’s staying during the same period. Travelers use the group to meet other guests, join in on trips, and participate in the activities that the staff sometimes organizes.
The breakfast is a bit expensive here, but it’s very tasty and served on their rooftop.
Location: Near many famous sights and attractions of the city. A 10-minute walk will take you to Rainbow street, and other points of interest include Zahran Palace and Al Hussainy Mosque.
There is a supermarket a 1-minute walk from this hostel as well.

3. Nomads Hotel
Nomads Hotel is a very clean and comfortable, homey hostel that we think is particularly great for female solo travelers (female dorm beds come with private curtains and lockers)
This Amman hostel has the following facilities:
- A concierge service (with ironing and business facilities)
- A rooftop terrace (with a great view)
- A shared kitchen

The two best features in this hostel are the staff, as they are exceptionally friendly and accommodating, as well as the shared lounge area, which is very conducive to interacting with fellow travelers.
Another great feature is their concierge service (so yea, still the staff!) that will help you to book diverse activities throughout Jordan.
Location: Close to rainbow street, in an area that is an easy walking distance from most of the city’s main sights and attractions. The streets adjacent to this hostel are full of cafés, and restaurants are lively at all times of the day.
We recommend checking out AlQuds Falafel (a 5-minute walk from the hostel), which serves tasty and cheap falafel sandwiches.
