Best Hostels in Baku – Visit Flame Towers and Museum of Contemporary Art & Shop at Teze Bazaar

Before discovering rich natural gas and oil deposits, Baku was a relatively provincial city. According to historical archives, the natural riches of this region were known as early as the third century. The city’s most dramatic development occurred in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Baku then rose to prominence as an important economic centre in this region of the world. Before we include the best hostels in Baku where you can stay, let us tell you more about this incredible city!

The unmistakable emblem of Baku is a trio of skyscrapers in the shape of flames. Get your camera ready since the undulating structures are stunning both during the day and at night. You may get amazing images from all throughout the city. Additionally, there is a display of vibrant illuminations on the glass surfaces every evening.

A 5-star hotel, offices, and shops are concealed behind the buildings. Because only visitors to the facility are allowed to ascend to the top, this is the only chance to enjoy spectacular city views from this vantage point.

The metro in Baku has several locations and only costs 0.30 manat. Aside from walking, this is the most affordable way to get around Baku. You must purchase a Bak Metropiliten Kart (refundable 2 manat deposit) and load it just like a regular metro pass. A limited card with 1, 2, 3, or 4 journeys is also available for purchase for 0.20 manat (the last one costs 1 manat). More than one individual can use the same card.

Alternatively, you can use Azerbaycan Sosial Kart, like those seen on some ATM cards issued in Azerbaijan. Metro employees will gladly assist you if you speak to them in Azerbaijani or Russian; some may also understand English.

Also, at some bus stops and metro stations, there are ticket machines where you can purchase a metro card. The good thing is that the device’s language can be changed to English!

Backpacking tips for Baku

1. As a foreigner, purchasing a sim card is practically difficult. In order to register for a sim card, you must be a citizen of the nation. You may, however, always request that your Azerbaijani host or friend purchase the sim card on your behalf.

2. An intriguing fact about Baku is that within one-tenth of a degree, its average annual temperature (14.2 °C / 57.6 °F) matches the average temperature of the whole landmass of the Earth. Winters are chilly, damp, and windy; summers are hot and muggy. However, because of the presence of the Caspian Sea, seasonal temperature changes are smaller than in many continental places at this latitude (about 40 degrees north).

3. Bike transportation is excellent in Baku. The city, including the old town and downtown, is mostly flat, except for the top section of the city. While some streets are unsafe for driving on, there is nearly always a safe, efficient path to your destination. Despite the absence of dedicated bike lanes and the frequent coexistence of cars and bikes on Baku’s congested streets, the city is relatively bicycle-friendly. To prevent accidents and enhance traffic flow when riding on the street, use extreme caution, keep an eye out for other cyclists, always ride closer to the footpath, and signal your intentions to other road users.

4. A strange and enigmatic tower known as Maiden’s Tower may have been used as a Zoroastrian temple, a fire beacon, a defensive fortress, and an astronomical observatory between the 7th and 12th centuries. The tower, Baku’s most recognisable feature, is built on a strong rock base and is regarded as “Baku’s most beautiful and mysterious monument, Gyz Galasa.”

It exhibits a combination of Arab, Persian, and Ottoman elements close to the coast. Its location is next to a natural oil well. It is an eight-story, cylinder-shaped building with a base diameter of 16.5 m and a height of 29.5 m. 200 people are reportedly able to fit inside the tower’s interior space. Unfortunately, there is no nice view from above since a glass wall keeps you back from the edge and blocks it.

Simple as that.
