If you’re also visiting Mexico City, you absolutely must check out Casa Pepe – it’s the perfect fusion of luxury and backpacking vibes.
This guide is strictly your gateway to the absolute coolest hostels in Puerto Escondido. You only need one hostel, right? Which is why we’ve limited it to the top 3 rather than give you 20+ options.
Okay, okay… we went a little further to include a fun party hostel and some extra hostels definitely worth a mention.
This guide is perfect for YOU, when …
tired of bad and crappy hostels
want to avoid the “young party kids”
happy to spend 1-2€ for a better experience
Puerto Escondido is an excellent place for the avid surfer. Actually, even if you’re new but want to give surfing a good try, the beaches here are suitable for all levels. It’s an affordable destination, too. Especially because most of the hostels have their very own restaurant and bar with backpacker prices!
Check-In and Check Out: The average check-in time is from 15:00 (3pm), while the Check Out time is before 11:00 (11am). Hostels usually offer luggage storage in case you arrive earlier or leave later. Make sure you check if luggage storage is free or if there is an extra cost.
Bonobo Surf House: Sorry folks, the popular Bonobo Surf Hostel has permanently closed its doors. Skip to the best hostels list and choose a different one – you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks to the wonderful amenities, it’s easy to meet new people here as well as take time for yourself. You also have the luxury of popping next door to their sister hostel so there’s double chance of meeting someone cool!
Tip: If you’re a female solo traveller looking to wind down in paradise, we strongly suggest you check out One Love Hostal, our #2 in this guide.
