    Quick Introduction to Quepos

Average price for a bed: Hostels in Quepos cost 12€ – 17€ per night for a bed in a dorm. A private room starts from 23€ up to 47€ per night. This is a rough average just to give you an idea.

Prices always depend on season and holidays. Please always check exact rates on Hostelz.com or Hostelworld.com.

Check-In and Check Out: The average check-in time is from 15:00 (3pm), while the Check-Out time is before 11:00 (11am). Hostels usually offer luggage storage in case you arrive earlier or leave later. Make sure you check if luggage storage is free or if there is an extra cost.

Take the bus to Quepos: Part of the allure of Quepos is how conveniently located it is to Manuel Antonio. But it’s a bit too far to walk, and taking the bus is your best and cheapest option. The bus runs along the main road and costs less than a dollar. It might take a little longer compared to a taxi, but it will save money you can spend on activities later on!

More affordable/local experience: Everything about Quepos is more affordable than Manuel Antonio. There are more local restaurants, known as Sodas, and fewer tourist traps with overpriced avocado toast. Getting off the tourist highway will give you an authentic perspective of Costa Rica, and that’s what traveling’s all about, right?

Buy National Park tickets online: Going to the national park in Manuel Antonio is a must. But the park limits how many people can enter/buy tickets a day. So, buy your tickets online in advance to avoid getting turned away. If you don’t want to buy tickets online, try to get to the park before it opens.

Try the local beer: Coming to Costa Rica and not trying the local beer is a crime! It might not be as famous as the beer from countries like Mexico, but it ain’t too bad! Pilsen and Imperial are the two main beers of the country. Both are light lagers that go down easy when relaxing on the beach. Keep an eye out for the local artisanal beer in grocery stores and bars.

    2. Wide Mouth Frog

Wide Mouth Frog is a hostel for backpackers created by backpackers. A British couple first started Wide Mouth Frog in 2003, and it has since remained a top place to stay in Quepos.

The property is on the outskirts of the center of Quepos in its own little green oasis. It might not be the jungle experience other accommodation options offer, but for the affordable price, convenience, and hospitality, it makes up for whatever may be lacking!

The room styles are geared toward people who don’t mind sharing a room with other travelers.

Most of the bed options are in 8 to 10-person dorm rooms with comfy twin-sized mattresses. However, this is also a private room with bunks for two people.

It’s a great option if you don’t mind paying a bit extra in exchange for your own space.

When it’s time to eat, you can chow down at the onsite restaurant that serves up tasty meals like hamburgers, fish, nachos, quesadillas, American breakfast, pastries, and more–come with an appetite!

Location: Conveniently located next to the bus terminal in the city center of Quepos, everything in town (restaurants, grocery stores, and bars) will be within walking distance.

From the hostel, Manuel Antonio is about 7 km away. All you need is to exit the hostel, hop on the bus, and–bam!–you’re at the national park.

    3. Villas Jacquelina

Book your stay at Villas Jacquelina in the green hills of Quepos for an escape into nature!

The hostel is ideal for travelers who want something a touch nicer than a budget option with more privacy. Unlike many of the other accommodations in Quepos and Manuel Antonio, Villas Jacquelina is a bit off the main road.

The only sounds you’ll hear are the blissful ruffling of leaves and nearby wildlife. On the upper deck of the facility, there’s a trampoline-like net where you can lie down and drink in the views of the jungle. You can also meet new travelers at their common area.

You’ll have the option to stay in a range of private rooms. Whether you want a room with two beds, a garden view, air conditioning, or a private kitchen, you’ll be able to find it all here.

The property also includes a shared kitchen that’s fully stocked in case you feel like staying in and whipping up dinner.

Location: Villas Jacquelina is situated one km away from Quepos city center and about 8 km from the Manuel Antonio National Park.

Despite being off the main road, all the restaurants, bars, and shops in Quepos can comfortably be reached on foot. However, there aren’t many options directly next to the hostel.

What is seriously the best hostel in Quepos for solo-travelers? We think you know!

Backpackers will find a home away from home at Wide Mouth Frog, a hostel that was founded by other travellers.

The property is located on the edge of the city centre of Quepos, inside its own little small sanctuary of greenery.

Although it may not provide the same authentic jungle experience as some of the other lodging alternatives, the fact that it is more convenient, less expensive, and friendly more than makes up for this potential drawback.

    Tips for Staying in Quepos

Bring binoculars: The exotic wildlife is a big reason travelers have been drawn to Quepos and Manuel Antonio for so many years. You never know where you’re going to spot a toucan, monkey, or iguana going about its day. Bring a pair of binoculars to ensure you don’t miss any wildlife sightings (especially if you visit the national park).

Rainy season is rainy: If you’re traveling between the months of May and November, get ready for rain! October and November are the rainiest months, and you can expect daily downpours. Usually, the day starts nice and sunny before the clouds arrive in the afternoon. Make sure to pack a raincoat or poncho for when the rain hits. Don’t let a little water stop you from exploring!

Sign-up for Spanish classes: One of the best parts about traveling in Costa Rica is that English is widely spoken. But not practicing your Spanish while in the country is a wasted opportunity to get a more in-depth cultural experience. Located on the way to Manuel Antonio from Quepos, you can sign up for Spanish classes at Maximo Nivel. The school has part-time classes and intensive courses for a reasonable price!

Manuel Antonio National Park is closed on Tuesdays: Before you book your trip to Quepos and Manuel Antonio, know that the national park is closed every Tuesday. So, plan your trip accordingly so that you have a chance to see one of Costa Rica’s top nature attractions. Oh, and remember to book your tickets in advance or arrive early!
