Hello there! A warm welcome and congratulations for landing on the only guide you need for discovering the absolute best hostels in Lombok Indonesia.
We’re pretty excited about this collection, and you soon will be, no doubt! Hostels in Lombok Island offer a luxurious stay at a reasonable price. Boutique design, swimming pools & pod bed dorms – it’s all here, and more.
In this guide we cover the coolest hostels on Lombok Island. Technically, the Gili Islands are also part of Lombok. For these 3 islands, we wrote a specific guide for the best hostels in Gili Islands.
Looking for hostels in Kuta? All of these hostels are found in Kuta Lombok, which is the main tourist town on the island. It’s known for its endless beautiful beaches and surf spots.
Don’t get confused: Lombok is an Indonesian Island east of Bali. There is a town called Kuta on Lombok Island, and a town called Kuta on Bali Island. Here’s our guide to the 29 best hostels in Bali if you want to explore the Gili Islands, including Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan.
This guide is perfect for YOU, when you…
are tired of crappy hostels!
want a social Hostel to actually meet people
are happy to spend $1 to $2 more for a much better experience
Check-In and Check Out: The average check-in time is from 15:00 (3pm), while the Check Out time is before 11:00 (11am). Hostels usually offer luggage storage in case you arrive earlier or leave later. Make sure you check if luggage storage is free or if there is an extra cost.
Getting Around Lombok: renting a car is actually easy and safe. Keep in mind, you drive on the left side of the road. Another popular way is renting a scooter. We recommend this only for short-distances, not for the entire island. The most common way of transport is the public bus or indeed hiring a private taxi.
Mount Rinjani Volcano Trekking: Is this famous Mount Rinjani trekking worth it? You will certainly get a breathtaking view, even without reaching the top. The sunrise from the peak is obviously the highlight. However, the better trekking packages are not cheap at all, and all the trash and poo along the journey makes it hard to fully recommend a Mount Rinjani trek. Some friends loved it, others seriously hated it…personally, we were not able to do the trekking due to a knee injury.
To top it off, there is a communal kitchen for use and weekly cooking classes are held here for 2-4 people at a time – neat!
Super cool: The skate bowl opens to the public every afternoon giving guests an opportunity to mix with the local skate scene.
Skateboards are available for free and there’s two seating areas overlooking the bowl for spectators.
There are only dorm rooms available here, ranging from 7, 8 and 12-beds in size. The 12-bed is the cheapest option. It only has access to cold showers, BUT all of the beds are double instead of single and there are no bunkbeds.
All of the other rooms have AC, hot showers and an ensuite bathroom.
Location: Pipes Hostel is located 16km from Lombok intl airport, and 10 minutes from the beach and Kuta town. It’s in a quiet location close by to the football grounds.
Overall, we stick with our #1 hostel as the best hostel for solo travellers. Bamba Capsule Hotel is the most gorgeous hostel in the area, offering a mix of rooms and plenty of common areas to meet other travellers.
Looking for a great backpackers in Lombok?
Boogie Hostel Kuta is an intimate accommodation with just 2 dorm rooms with air conditioning, plus one ensuite private.
They include a free breakfast which is unusual on the island! Regular palm wine sessions, outdoor movie nights and BBQ’s create a warm, welcoming and social atmosphere for backpackers staying here.
Not all hostels in Lombok are necessarily safe, especially the one that offers the cheapest price in sketchy areas. It might be an illegal hostel, without proper license to run and safety measures.
So in all fairness, it is best to check out Hostelgeeks.com because we feature safe hostels in Lombok. You can find backpacker hostel with top ratings! Keep a close eye on the overall ratings on booking platforms!
