Average price for a bed: Hostels in Lombok cost 4€ – 6€ per night for a bed in a dorm. A private room starts from 11€ up to 15€ per night. This is a rough average just to give you an idea.

Check-In and Check Out: The average check-in time is from 15:00 (3pm), while the Check Out time is before 11:00 (11am). Hostels usually offer luggage storage in case you arrive earlier or leave later. Make sure you check if luggage storage is free or if there is an extra cost.
Getting Around Lombok: renting a car is actually easy and safe. Keep in mind, you drive on the left side of the road. Another popular way is renting a scooter. We recommend this only for short-distances, not for the entire island. The most common way of transport is the public bus or indeed hiring a private taxi.
Mount Rinjani Volcano Trekking: Is this famous Mount Rinjani trekking worth it? You will certainly get a breathtaking view, even without reaching the top. The sunrise from the peak is obviously the highlight. However, the better trekking packages are not cheap at all, and all the trash and poo along the journey makes it hard to fully recommend a Mount Rinjani trek. Some friends loved it, others seriously hated it…personally, we were not able to do the trekking due to a knee injury.

1. Pipes Hostel
Born in 2014, Pipes Hostel was actually the first hostel to open in the area of Kuta Lombok. There are many reasons why this is our #1 hostel!
“Pipes has grown over the years with organic feedback from guests to become a prime chill out spot in this little corner of paradise.”
It’s a really gorgeous property that will definitely have you feeling like you’re in Indonesia.
The hostel grounds are full of gorgeous green plants, warm spaces and a design that blends in perfectly with nature.
Believe it or not, this is suitable for the budget conscious traveller.
Let’s have a look at the amenities:
- Outdoor swimming pool
- Onsite cafe (coffee, cocktails & vegetarian/vegan meals)
- Scooter rental
- Concrete skate bowl
- Movie lounge w/ projector
To top it off, there is a communal kitchen for use and weekly cooking classes are held here for 2-4 people at a time – neat!
Super cool: The skate bowl opens to the public every afternoon giving guests an opportunity to mix with the local skate scene.
Skateboards are available for free and there’s two seating areas overlooking the bowl for spectators.
There are only dorm rooms available here, ranging from 7, 8 and 12-beds in size. The 12-bed is the cheapest option. It only has access to cold showers, BUT all of the beds are double instead of single and there are no bunkbeds.
All of the other rooms have AC, hot showers and an ensuite bathroom.
Location: Pipes Hostel is located 16km from Lombok intl airport, and 10 minutes from the beach and Kuta town. It’s in a quiet location close by to the football grounds.

2. Kaniu Lombok Hostel
In Hawaiin, Ka Niu means The Coconut – an apt name for Kaniu Lombok Hostel, our second recommendation in this guide.
“A Coconut is young, fresh, tropical and has something really good inside. Thats exactly what we are!”
This is actually a capsule hostel with either 16 or 30 capsules in a mixed dorm. There is a great view of the pool from the room balcony.
The bed space is cosy, yet there is a little space next to the bed itself so you can store your day bag and other valuables next to you whilst you sleep.
Thanks for the clever design of the place, all of the main social areas are at the centre of the property which encourages people to come together.

Digital nomads will really appreciate the large dining area attached to the restaurant. There are many tables to choose from to set up your work station and free wifi to enjoy.
Location: Just 10-15 minute walk from the main street with plenty of restaurants and bars.

3. Mad Monkey
Mad Monkey is great place for social travelers who wants to meet new people and have some fun. And you have to know that this is adults-only accommodation. They have beautifully decorated spacious private and dorm rooms, a large outdoor swimming pool, and a jacuzzi. Some of the rooms have pool views, and each room includes a private bathroom with a shower.
The best part by far are the staff – they are all so friendly and welcoming, and they made you feel like you are at home from the beginning.
The place is clean, and the location is amazing. You can do everything you need there: rent scooters, go surfing, visit the beach etc. Excellent place to stay for low budget and to meet new people.
Location: The hostel is around a few steps from Kuta Beach, 1.2 km from Mandalika Beach and 2.5 km from Seger Lombok Beach.

What about cheapest hostels in Lombok?
Of course, there are always cheap hostels. Forget hotels!
We think, it’s not worth it to go with the cheapest hostel out there.
Why?
The difference is usually 1-2€ ($1-2) per night, and a lot of amenities are not included. This can be breakfast or linen.

Don’t let the name confuse you. It may be called a ‘hotel’, but we’re sure this was done to help prepare you for a boutique experience – it’s pretty fancy!

The entire design concept has cleverly been created to keep a social atmosphere emphasised as the main attraction.
Be blown away by what’s included:

Everything from movie screenings, culinary experiences and music from local and international DJ’s can be enjoyed here.
And as for the bedrooms, it only gets better.
First off choose your style: deluxe double room, mixed or female dorm.
All of the dorms offer pod-style beds which come with a privacy curtain, USB charging sockets and spring beds with linen. The female only dorm comes with an ensuite, too.
Yet quite honestly, as comfortable as the beds may be, we’d be spending more time in the social areas.
Just wait until you see the menu at the restaurant. Enjoying food overlooking the pool in the courtyard is paradise.
