What about the cheapest hostels in Rome?

Of course, there are always cheap hostels. But how do you actually find them? When you are traveling on a shoe-string budget and you want to save every dollar, there are ways to find the cheapest places in Rome.

  1. Open Hostelz.com with a full list of all hostels in Rome
  2. add your dates
  3. Order the listings by price

Simple as that.

Hostelz.com is a price comparison site for hostels. They list every single one in the world and tells you exactly which website is cheaper to use.

Another smart Tip: Check what is actually included, and what is excluded. Take a closer look at the location, too. A further location might mean more costs in transport.

Basic Information to Rome

Here is some generic advice you should know about hostels in Rome.

Prices: Winter is cheaper than the super high season of Summer (July and August).  Prices always depend on the season, special events, and holidays. Please always check the exact rates on Hostelz.com or Hostelworld.com.

Tourism Tax: In almost every major tourist destination you will need to pay a so-called tourism or city tax. Do not get mad when you hear about a tourist tax in Rome for about 1€/night when you stay in hostels, it’s not a scam. Also, if you stay in hotels this tax can be higher, around 4€/person per night.

When to book: book your hostel as soon as you have your dates fixed. This will avoid disappointment plus you can get room in the best hostels.

Safety: Watch out for pickpockets in Rome, especially in the metro and the major touristic areas like Fontana di Trevi and Termini Station. Many hostels are located around Termini Station. This neighborhood looks like it is quite a sketchy area. Do not be afraid, just watch your belongings.

Check-In and Check-Out: Check-in time usually starts from 2pm – 3pm (14:00 and 15:00). Check-out time varies between 10am and 12pm (10:00 and 12:00). You can leave your luggage at the hostel, some hostels offer this service for free, others will charge you a symbolic fee for luggage storage.
