1. Trip’n’Hostel

First up we’d like to introduce Trip’n’Hostel for those that prefer a more homely hostel rather than a super modern type place – the best hostel in Tirana!

Walking in through the doors really is like walking in to someone’s home. The kind of home that is obviously well lived in yet still clean and relaxing.

“The building is an old Italian stile villa, constructed in 1910. The villa has three floors and two green gardens at both sides.”

That’s right; two gardens to relax and enjoy your free breakfast in!

It’s really pretty cool that there is an underground floor and this is where the shared kitchen is located.

Move up to the ground floor and you’ll find a vintage-style common room that’s full of books, a computer, plenty of light and that all important relaxing atmosphere.

To top it off there are two chimney rooms on the property – evening by a roaring fire, anyone?!

Hint: Make sure you make the most of the beer on tap here!

What about where you can lay your head at night? Let’s check out the rooms:

  • 4, 6, 10 and 12-bed mixed dorms
  • Private double room

Fun: Each dorm has a colour theme including purple, yellow, red and green.

All of the rooms are set on the second floor away from the common area so it’s possible to enjoy a quiet night’s sleep.

Keep going up and you’ll eventually hit the gorgeous solarium terrace up on the roof. Another prime spot to hang out, that’s for sure!

Location: In a characteristic quarter of Tirana ‘Pazar i Ri’, 300 meters from the center of the city.

2. Tirana Backpacker Hostel

Continuing with the warm, homely vibes we’d like to put Tirana Backpacker Hostel in at a very close second.

This was actually the first hostel to open in Tirana back in 2005, set inside a stunning 100 year old Italian style villa.

Once again you will not be stepping in to a modern, bland accommodation – far from it! – but a colourful, cosy and vibrant hostel.

“Our backyard attracts guests all day and night where you will find lots of mandarin and orange trees, hammocks, sofas and instruments around!”

For sure the coolest part about Tirana is the backyard, and it’s an ideal spot to hang out at all times of the day watching people come and go, socialising and relaxing.

Yet, there are more perks to mention:

  • Hostel bar
  • Indoor & outdoor common areas
  • Fully equipped kitchen & dining room
  • Day tours
  • Bike rental
  • Free WiFi

Not only that but this hostel throws in a free breakfast and also offers a scrumptious healthy, vegetarian dinner for a few extra coins.

This place has done so well to create a community of like-minded individuals that will be difficult to resist!

Alongside the 4 and 6-bed mixed dorms, there is also a couple of single and double private rooms available. One of the double rooms even comes with a private bathroom.

Location: In the heart of Tirana, 500m from Skanderbeg Square and 5km from Dajti Ekspres Cable Car. The area is popular for cycling, and car hire is available at the hostel. Tirana International Mother Teresa Airport is 15km from the hostel.

3. Vanilla Sky Boutique Hostel

With equally as much enthusiasm it’s time to step in to Vanilla Sky Boutique Hostel and take a look around.

Designed as yet another “home away from home”, Vanilla Sky impresses travellers with top quality designer furnishings, bright decor and super awesome staff.

“Vanilla Sky Boutique Hostel offers private and shared accommodations, a lounge and free Wi-Fi access throughout the property.”

This is certainly the hostel you should choose if you’re less about organised fun and more about relaxing in a unique accommodation.

What we love most about this hostel is the room choices! See for yourself…

  • 4-bed female & male dorms
  • 4 and 6-bed mixed dorms
  • Double room / private bathroom
  • Triple room / private bathroom
  • Deluxe double room
  • Family room (double bed + bunk)

Pretty sweet, right? It’s not very often you get male dorms as well as female!

The dorms don’t come with privacy curtains which is a bit of a shame, but they are nice and spacious with plenty of light.

All of the rooms offer a street view, and some of them feature a spacious balcony.

Whilst Vanilla Sky does not offer any organised activities, the location is hard to beat. Within minutes you can be in Bllok district which is full of bars and restaurants.

Psst! There’s no curfew here and a really great private passcode entry on the front door.

Location: In the vibrant heart of the city, and easy stroll from the main tourist attractions of Tirana.

What about cheapest hostels in Tirana?

Of course, there are always cheap hostels in Tirana. Forget hotels in Tirana Albania!

We think, it’s not worth it to go with the cheapest hostel out there.

Why?

The difference is usually 1-2€ ($1-2) per night, and a lot of amenities are not included. This can be breakfast or linen.

However, if you are traveling on a shoe-string budget and you wanna save every penny, there are ways to find the cheapest places in Tirana.

  1. Open Hostelworld with full list of budget places to stay in Tirana
  2. Order the listing by price

Simple as that.

You could have a look at All Stars Hostel as an example of a cheaper hostel that has lower ratings.

Make sure you use then the other filters and rank per price.

Also keep a close eye on the ratings, especially the “extreme ratings”. Meaning, the best and worst. These ratings can give great insight on what to expect.

Best Hostels in Tirana for Solo Travellers?

What is seriously the best hostel in Tirana for solo-travellers?

We’ll easily stick with our #1 hostel Trip’n’Hostel here.

We really enjoy the room choices here, offering plenty of opportunity to meet people in the larger 10 and 12-bed dorms.

Even though they don’t organise any activities, the central location means you can be in the heart of the excitement within minutes.

Then once you’re done for the night you can return to a quiet hostel for a good night’s sleep.

Plus, the rooftop solarium, two gardens and cosy common room are excellent places to socialise with other travellers (or enjoy your own space).

Head on down to Milingona City Centre Hostel and you’ll be in for a good time.

The big garden is where you’ll find other travellers, plus organic draft beer and home-made Raki from the garden grapes – yum!

“Tirana is a hub of music geniuses, so don’t be surprised to hear of gigs happening here at the hostel or nearby.”

Note: This isn’t a crazy party hostel, so be respectful to other guests and head into town if you want a really big night.

And you’re in luck! This is the most central hostel in the city, very close to Blloku District which is full to the brim with bars, clubs and live music.
