    Flights to Sapa?

Sapa town has no airport, so travel by plane is not possible. The closest railway station is in Lao Cai town, it is about 3 km from the border with China. The only way to get there is to travel by bus or train. The sleeping buses are also super comfy, but we are more train-people. Is that even a thing? Anyway…

There is a direct overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai.

There is no train station in Sa Pa directly. Again, you’ve to take the train to Lao Cai and take another bus to Sa Pa. You can buy the tickets online, but there is a big β€œdisadvantage” – just call it like that.

BUT: Buying the train ticket online costs you twice the price than actually buying it at the official ticket center at the train station.

There it only costs around 385k dong ($16). Online it was more than 3.8 million Vietnamese dong ($160)…INSANE!

Therefore, go to the main train Station in Hanoi and purchase your ticket here.

The online version is much more expensive. Websites to avoid are the following:

    • www.hanoisapatrain.com

There is also a cheap version of train tickets online, but here is the catch: Only locals with a local, Vietnamese credit card can buy those cheaper tickets. Rumor has it, some smart Western saw this opportunity and runs this business with an insane margin.
