Prices always depend on season and holidays. Please always check exact rates on Hostelz.com or Hostelworld.com.

Check-In and Check Out: The average check-in time is from 15:00 (3pm), while the Check-Out time is before 11:00 (11am). Hostels usually offer luggage storage in case you arrive earlier or leave later. Make sure you check if luggage storage is free or if there is an extra cost.

Additional Information for backpacking in Puerto Natales:

Torres del Paine National Park, the main attraction of Puerto Natales, is a natural, earth-made mecca of jaw-dropping glaciers, pristine lakes, rivers, and bountiful mountains that cover the Patagonia territory of southern Chile. Visitors to the park, which receives nearly 300,000 tourists each year, will be enthralled by the flora and fauna of one of the planet’s most fascinating creations. Guanacos (a llama-like mammal), foxes, pumas, and dozens of bird species, including hawks, owls, and flamingos, roam the land, and the breathtaking vegetation of flowers and trees will have you wondering if you’ve entered a beautiful, alternative reality.

Torres del Paine National Park can be reached in a variety of ways. If you’re driving from Puerto Natales, you can easily drive to the park and park in the public lot until your visit is over. The public bus is the cheapest and most convenient way to get to the park. All buses from Terminal Rodoviario leave around 7 a.m. and arrive about two hours later. The bus ticket is approximately 11 USD. Otherwise, you can book one of the many guided tours that depart from Puerto Natales, where you can stay for one, two, or three days.

Entrance to the park ranges from 35 USD to 50 USD, depending on the length of your stay. If you plan on staying overnight at one of the park’s hotels, book well in advance, especially during peak season, as rooms fill up quickly. For the extra adventurous, camping in the heart of Patagonia rather than staying in one of the hotels will be the experience of a lifetime and another item crossed off your things to do before you die bucket list.

Visitors only need one day to see everything in Puerto Natales after visiting Torres del Paine National Park. But, that doesn’t mean there aren’t other spectacular sights to see in the area. Milodon Cave is a paleontologist hotspot for those interested in human life dating back to 6,000 BC. Visitors will be fascinated by this incredible rock formation as well as learn about South America’s prehistoric wonders.

Did you know? Patagonia’s glaciers date back to the last Ice Age. During the high season, which runs from December to March, visitors can take boat trips to marvel at the great Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers, which can be found a few hours north in Bernardo O’Higgins National Park. This day trip from Puerto Natales usually lasts all day, and you’ll enter a near-fantasy land of grand mountains painted in vibrant white to contrast the natural South American rustic greenery.

Cycling, kayaking, and horseback riding are also fun ways to explore Puerto Natales and its nearby areas.

Traveling south of the equator may cause weather confusion, but Puerto Natales’s proximity to Antarctica should clarify that summer typically lasts from November to March. The rainiest months are April to July, with July being the coldest month, so plan accordingly. Don’t forget to bring jackets and warm pants— Puerto Natales is notoriously windy year-round and the nights can get very chilly.

If you’re looking for some (very cold) swimming and stress-free hiking while in Puerto Natales, take a thirty-minute drive to Lake Sofia, where locals spend their free time. Cerro Dorotea, a nice mountain overlooking Puerto Natales ten minutes away, is a popular hiking spot closer to town, also popular with tourists looking to maximize their stay.

A trip to Chile will be the trip of a lifetime, with Patagonia’s beloved Puerto Natales and the Torres del Paine National Park unquestionably the highlights. The town and its environs are culturally and geographically significant in their own right, and should not be overlooked when planning your Patagonia itinerary. Bring extra camera batteries, charge your GoPro, and get ready for the journey of a lifetime; the most beautiful place on Earth awaits.

The Camino de Santiago is ideal for backpackers and solo travelers exploring Chile, as it is a popular lodging option for those seeking rest and socialization while in Puerto Natales.

The hostel is always spotless and well-kept.

Camino de Santiago functions more like a bed and breakfast than an impersonal hostel, as evidenced by the numerous positive reviews. The hostel’s owners, a Chilean-Spanish couple, take excellent care of their guests, ensuring that tours and transportation are booked and on time. The hostel serves meals that are a mix of Spanish, Venezuelan, and Chilean cuisine. Coffee and tea are available all day, along with tapas.
