Here is the thing about a hostel pool. It does more social work than any organised pub crawl ever will. People end up in the water, people end up talking, and by early evening somebody has suggested dinner.

I have a soft spot for places like this, and I’ll admit that upfront.
Lana Land Homestay Phu Quoc is a homestay more than a hostel, all old Vietnamese detail sitting next to plain modern furniture, with trees and greenery closing in around the building. It’s quiet. If you’ve just come off a run of loud mainland hostels, that quiet is the whole point.
Practical bits are handled properly: free WiFi, air conditioning, private curtains around the beds, and lockers that actually fit a backpack. The units come with a kitchen, a seating area and a dining area, so you can cook, and there’s a sun terrace with BBQ facilities where the family food tends to happen. That’s usually where guests end up meeting each other, not in a bar.
Bicycle and car rental is available on site, which matters on an island where nothing is walkable except the beach.

Hands up if you’re keen to stay somewhere that feels a bit more Vietnamese and a bit less international-dorm-template. Good, because we’ve found your hostel.
Phu House mixes traditional and modern design, and the skylight in the middle of the building drops natural light down through the whole place. It’s the first thing you notice walking in.
It’s also a bar and a rooftop cafe, which is where most evenings end up. Sunset, a drink, Vietnamese or Western food, and a view that makes you stay for a second round.

4. Fine9 Hostel
One room. That’s the whole hostel.
Fine9 Hostel has a single 10-bed mixed dormitory and nothing else, which sounds like a limitation until you stay in it. Huge window, desk with stools, privacy curtains on every bed, big lockers for the valuables. The living room downstairs is full of books and plants and bright colour, and it’s the kind of space where you accidentally spend a whole afternoon.
You’re right in the middle of the nightlife, but the room is on the second floor and stays quiet. Out front there’s street seating, which is a fine place to drink coffee and watch Duong Dong get on with its day. Dinh Cau beach is a 5-minute stroll.
Motorbike rental happens at reception, and the tour desk will book local trips for you. And yes, free wifi, so don’t panic.
Good to know: Reception is open 24/7 and there is no curfew here.

Party Hostels in Phu Quoc
Let’s manage expectations. Phu Quoc isn’t a party island in the way Koh Rong or Vang Vieng are, and honestly that’s part of why people like it. Nights out here mean the night market, a bar on the beach, and being in bed before it gets silly.
So there’s no true party hostel to point you at. The most sociable option is Langchia Home.

When to Visit Phu Quoc
November to March is the good stretch. Dry, calm sea, clear water for snorkelling, and the boat tours actually run instead of getting cancelled.
December to February is the busiest and priciest part of that window, and Tet pushes it further. Book earlier than you normally would.
July to October is the wet season. Afternoon downpours, rougher sea, fewer people, cheaper beds. I don’t hate it as a time to go if you’re on a budget and don’t mind losing the odd day, but late September and October are the heaviest months and the ferries get cancelled a lot.
April and May sit in between. Hot, still mostly dry, decent value.
How Many Days Do You Need in Phu Quoc?
Three to four nights is the honest answer for most people.
That gets you a boat and snorkel day in the An Thoi archipelago, a proper beach day, a run down to the south of the island, and one day where you do nothing at all. Which is usually the day people remember.
Five or more if you want to add the national park in the north, the quieter beaches up that way, or if you’ve just come off a long overland stretch and need to stop moving. Phu Quoc is very good at turning three nights into six.
Getting to Phu Quoc and Getting Around
Flying is how nearly everyone arrives. Phu Quoc International Airport sits about 10km from Duong Dong, with short domestic hops from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Da Nang, plus a growing number of international routes. From the airport, Grab is your friend. Open the app, see the fare before you commit, done.
Ferries run from Ha Tien and Rach Gia on the mainland. It’s cheaper and it’s scenic, but rough seas cancel sailings with very little notice, so don’t book a same-day onward flight off the back of one.
On the island, a rented motorbike is the flexible option. Roads are decent, sand on the corners is the real hazard, and helmets are required. If you don’t ride, Grab covers most of the island and taxis fill the gaps.
Visa note: Phu Quoc has its own 30-day visa exemption if you arrive directly from abroad and the island is your only stop in Vietnam. The second you plan to continue to Saigon, Hanoi or anywhere else on the mainland, that exemption no longer applies and you need an e-visa. Sort it before you fly, not after.

Are Hostels in Phu Quoc Safe?
Yes, broadly. Phu Quoc is one of the calmer places you’ll travel in Southeast Asia, and violent crime aimed at travellers is rare.
The realistic risks are boring ones. Petty theft in busy spots like the night market, so keep your phone in a zipped pocket. Scooter accidents, which are by far the most common way travellers get hurt in Vietnam, so wear the helmet and check the brakes before you ride off. Strong sun and stronger currents in the wet season.
