During the Vietnam War, US soldiers discovered this getaway destination, and it has been attracting tourists ever since. Now, the city is mainly known for its raunchy nightlife and sex scene, with a huge array of beer bars, go-go clubs, discos and nightclubs! With all this in mind, it should come as no surprise that Pattaya was once named “The City Of Sin”.
However, the government recently wanted to expand the possibilities for tourists, attracting families and hosting various kinds of family-friendly activities.
Waterparks, gardens and animal sanctuaries are just some of the places where families can have a fantastic time!
In addition to that, the government also wants to turn Pattaya into a cosmopolitan centre, so mall chains, trendy restaurants and luxurious hotels are not a rare occurrence.

Pattaya is also adorned with some of the world’s greatest natural and historical wonders. It has become a one-stop location to learn about the unique Thai culture and have a one-of-a-kind experience like no other in the world.
For those seeking a spiritual or religious journey, the city is home to several Buddhist temples where you can familiarise yourself with some ancient Thai traditions.
You can even enjoy some time on the spectacular sandy beaches and even try out jet-skiing, parasailing and windsurfing!
Due to the major investments in tourism, accommodations have also experienced a major turnaround.
For that reason, we want to give you some of our picks for the best hostels in Pattaya.
Check-In and Check Out: The average check-in time is from 15:00 (3pm), while the Check-Out time is before 11:00 (11am). Hostels usually offer luggage storage in case you arrive earlier or leave later. Make sure you check if luggage storage is free or if there is an extra cost.
Safety in Pattaya: Pattaya is a great place for lone tourists since it is both safe and friendly. The city is quite secure for solo travellers, but you should still stick together. There are a large number of restaurants, pubs, activities, and hostels where lone travellers may mingle and socialise with one another.
Transportation in Pattaya: Motorcycle taxis and the baht bus system make getting about Pattaya easy and affordable. Metered cabs, private cabs, applications like GrabTaxi and Bolt, and even private vehicle and driver charters are also options.
If you have decided upon backpacking in Pattaya, then you should definitely check out the Nonze Hostel , as it’s the ideal choice for the solo traveller!
Upon entering the hostel, the interior will stun you – wooden elements adorn the entire space, with colourful accents on the walls and decorations. There’s even a slide for you to go on to get to the lower levels of the hostel!
Additionally, the dorm beds are quite unique – instead of the usual bunks, you get to sleep in spacious capsules, equipped with a comfortable mattress, night lights and power outlets. There are also large cubicles for you to put all your stuff in.
One thing we definitely recommend is getting up early to see the fabulous views that Nonze has to offer! You could see the sunrise lighting up the entire beach, and it will surely take your breath away.
You can also go to the outdoor relaxing zone for drinks or read a good book.
However, several travellers have said that this hostel is not the ideal place to meet new people, as the communal spaces are not organised very well. Apart from that, the staff is extremely helpful and can make your hostel stay a luxurious experience.
Location: It is located on the broad Beach Road of Pattaya, so you could enjoy getting your tan on or hitting the waves. At nighttime, you could hop to several bars in the area and have a first-hand experience of the wild nightlife of Pattaya.
Even though the hostel’s location is central, there are still plenty of things to do inside! For instance, you could have a relaxing night off by taking a dip inside the heated indoor pool.
The staff can also provide you with anything you might need, and they can even recommend tours or spots to visit throughout the entire city.
There’s one thing to mention, though – the internet access on the upper floors of the hostel is quite weak, so digital nomads should book a room on the lower floors if available or bring a WiFi hotspot with them.
Location: The beach is just 5 minutes away on foot, while the bustling city centre is 10 minutes away. Due to the great location, visitors can have fun exploring all of the city’s top attractions!
At Sindy's Hostel, each of the guest rooms is equipped with a seating space. There is a bathroom and a shower that are shared for each room, and some of the rooms also include a terrace.
There are both double and twin rooms available, making this hostel ideal for anyone travelling as a family or in a larger group. Both accommodations have a television, a private bathroom, and a balcony.
There is also a dormitory room in the hostel that offers 10 beds and air conditioning.
Every bed has its own personal reading light as well as its own set of electrical outlets.
Location: The Sindy’s Hostel in Pattaya Central offers free WiFi and views of the city, and it is just a few minutes’ drive to the Central Marina Shopping Mall. The beach can be reached in about 5 minutes by car.
The property is located near a number of well-known points of interest, around 200 metres from Art In Paradise and approximately 400 metres from Alcazar Cabaret.
The Hard Rock Cafe is located 900 metres away, while Central Festival Pattaya Beach is about 1.4 kilometres away from the hostel.
In addition to the vibrant nightlife, Pattaya has to offer unique cultural experiences and activities for every individual!
We want to provide you with a list of tips to make your trip a little bit easier.
As we’ve previously mentioned, you should definitely experience the nightlife in Pattaya! From bars to nightclubs and karaoke bars – there’s something for everyone to enjoy! Take a walk down the Pattaya Walking Street and head into some of the wildest discos in the world.
The Pattaya Floating Market is one of the best reasons to visit the city. The market is divided into four portions, each representing a different part of Thailand. You can get excellent prices on handicrafts and taste some delicious Thai food!
Visit the Sanctuary Of Truth, an ancient wooden temple in the northern part of Pattaya. While you’re there you can even get to see some Thai boxing and cultural shows or you could have a trek on an elephant’s back!
For lovers of the outdoors, we recommend seeing the golden, 18-meter-tall Big Buddha. You can climb up the steep stairs and see the statue in full glory where you can also wish for luck, health and happiness.

CLOSED – Yes! Vegan Bed And Vegan Foods Pattaya
Update: This hostel has closed permanently.
The last entry of our list of best hostels in Pattaya is the Yes! Vegan Bed and Foods Hostel. It is situated just 500m away from the beach, and the city area is very easily accessible – making it a great choice if you’re backpacking in Pattaya! You can also find many restaurants, shops and bars in the area, so you can experience the best of what the city offers!
This quaint and cosy accommodation has only four bedrooms available with 20 beds in total. There are only five bathrooms available, so there isn’t an option for rooms with private ones. The rooms and the hostel’s interior are decorated in a contemporary and modern style. Each room is equipped with power outlets and a nightlight, and there’s even a blue-light option available that doesn’t strain your eyes so much! On the top floor are cubbies locked with keys where you can place all of your personal belongings.
The hostel’s common areas are spacious and inviting, so you can spend time meeting new people. We would say that the main highlight of this accommodation is that it carefully caters to vegan travellers! There’s a restaurant inside the hostel that offers a wide array of vegan dishes, meaning that all of your dietary needs can be satisfied. The atmosphere is quite relaxing, so if you need a place to wind down, our new kid on the block is the ideal choice for you!
