If you’re an eco-traveler you’ll appreciate the fact that all the rooms are air-conditioned but only at night which is a relief in the Belizean moist tropical climate and at the same time good for the environment.

Although the social vibe is great, this hostel gets quiet at night. It’s a great option if you want to have a peaceful night. That also means it might not be the place for you if you’re looking to party.
However, thanks to its strategic location you’ll find many drinking and partying dens on the doorstep. So you can step out for a fun night out then head back to Go Slow Guesthouse for a peaceful sleep.

Each dorm bed has a power outlet where you can easily charge your electronics and there’s wifi connectivity throughout the property which makes working remotely blissful.

Be sure to take advantage of the free bikes and kayaks to explore the island.

One of the downsides that might be a little bit inconvenient is that they don’t have bag lockers, but there’s a small lockable drawer where you can keep your valuables. Plus, each room has a keypad lock for that extra security.

Location: Go Slow Guesthouse is centrally located and just a few minutes’ walk from the ferry dock.

The hostel is close to a lot of nice restaurants but if you’d rather prepare your meals, the property boasts a decent kitchen with all necessary appliances.

Sophie's Guest Rooms is a pleasant low key and comfy place to stay in Caye Caulker. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful which gives this place a welcoming vibe.

The hostel boasts an enviable location and being just seven minutes away from the Split is a huge perk.

It’s also about 3 minutes’ walk from the island’s main bar, the Lazy Lizard where you can go to hang out, meet people and enjoy beautiful sunset views.

Although the hostel is a walking distance of every fun and excitement that the island has to offer, it’s also slightly tucked away in a quieter street making it a perfect tranquil haven to go home to after a long day of exploring the island.

With a true beachfront location, this hostel offers astounding views of the Caribbean Sea and allows you to enjoy water sports activities right from your doorstep.

There are only 5 rooms each with 1 double bed and 1 single bed. So even at its full capacity, the hostel never feels crowded.

The beds are comfortable, and each one of them comes with a nightstand, as well as a safe where you can stash your valuables.

You’ll also have storage space for your clothes.

For caffeine lovers, you’ll enjoy the complimentary coffee offered every morning.

Every room has a hammock on the veranda outside from where you can enjoy magical views of the sunset with a beer in your hand.

One downside of this hostel is the lack of a kitchen. But there are a lot of restaurants just next door so eating out is pretty easy.

Another downside is that there are no communal areas, and as a result, most people are forced to keep to themselves. This means that the hostel might not be ideal for solo travelers looking to meet new people.

But if you’re yearning for a quiet place where you can chill and relax, Sophie’s is a solid contender.

Location: The hostel is in an excellent location approximately 5 minutes’ walk from the ferry dock.

If you’re looking for a party hostel that’s also cheap, Bella's Backpackers Hostel is one of the best options in Caye Caulker.

It’s set in a superb location and everything you might need including supermarkets, restaurants, and souvenir shops is all within five minutes walk radius.

This is where both the locals and backpackers convene making it a fantastic place to socialize with people from all walks of life.

That said, the backyard is one of the local’s favorite hangout areas and although this gives the hostel a vibrant social scene, it also means there’ll be a lot of strangers within the property’s vicinity which might make some people uncomfortable.

With its rustic wooden design, that contrasts perfectly with the white interior this hostel ooze laidback vibes and there are a lot of places to relax especially on the outside.

There are also nice spots where you can chill and marvel at the sunset or the sunrise and the free canoes comes as a nice addition.

    Bella's Backpackers Hostel Private Room

The beds are good enough for a comfortable sleep and there’s a well-equipped kitchen where you can make your food.

The hostel boasts private rooms and a dorm both fitted with AC, mosquito nets, and even mosquito coils to keep the bugs away.

The staff is welcoming and they can offer invaluable information about the island including the best places to explore, nice restaurants, and bars.

But most importantly they organize excursions, such as boat trips, with sunset cruise being one of the best as well as other activities such as snorkeling.

You’ll find people partying, drinking, and exchanging stories in the backyard till late and the living area is pretty close to some dorms making it hard for people to have a peaceful night’s sleep.

But as stated above, this hostel is best suited for party animals and backpackers who don’t have a problem with sleeping in the wee hours of the night.

Tips for Backpacking in Caye Caulker

    Go Slow

Caye Caulker’s motto is “go slow” and everyone on the island seemingly abides by it.

They take it so seriously that there are no cars, save for the few government vehicles. So you must explore the island by foot, golf cart, or bike.

    Bring a refillable water bottle

It’s not safe to drink tap water on this island and some places will charge you for a distilled water refill. So be sure to pack a water bottle with a filter and fill it up at the hostel to save some bucks.

    Travel during the off-season

It’s a universally known truth that the off-season brings some irresistible deals on accommodations.

Top that up with fewer people as well as nicer weather and you’ll have one more reason to fall in love with Caye Caulker.

Make the most of the Happy Hour

Many restaurants and bars across the island offer nice happy hour deals which can come in handy if you’re on a shoestring budget.

Stores off the main strip are cheaper

If you’re staying longer on the island and you prefer preparing your meals, you’ll bag better prices at the stores off the main strip.
