1. Ani&Haakien – Our Favorite

Ani&Haakien is without doubt the hostel to be in Rotterdam. It’s our only 5 star hostel in the city! We wrote a big review on Ani & Haakien hostel.

Start off by giving hostel cat Suzy a scratch behind the ears and wander amongst likeable style. We’d describe this as purely artsy, cool and charming. A true community charm.

Find yourself rubbing elbows with locals as you dine at daily dinners and enjoy free tours. There’s actually so much to mention. Here’s a handy overview:

  • Bike & long board rental
  • Dinner Nights
  • Movie Nights
  • Free Walking Tours – highly recommended to join
  • Vegetable garden
  • Fully equipped kitchen
  • Free coffee & toast
  • No curfew (reception closes overnight)
  • Give & take shop

Alongside free tours around the city, there is also pancake mornings and night walks to nearby markets.

What a wonderful social atmosphere!

As for rooms? There are dorms with 6, 8, 10 and 12-beds. There is also one double room which is super cosy. It is a small double room though and the bathroom is shared.

Once you’ve grabbed a bed, head on down to the beautiful living room where the good vibes can be found.

There’s so much space to wind down, chat and enjoy a beer. Perhaps you’d also like to finally try playing the guitar – it would be rude not to!

Note: Ani&Haakien accept groups but require contact and arrangement before your arrival.

Location: PERFECT! Just 600m from Rotterdam Central Station. It’s located on a quiet street, walking distance to top sights and nightlife.

3. Hostel Room

Let’s mosey on over to #3 on this list on cool Rotterdam Hostel, the Hostel Room, a renovated national monument built in 1923. The Art Deco style now accommodates 17 themed rooms.

It’s a great option for budget travellers coming over to Rotterdam!

Let’s have a closer look at the rooms:

  • Private twin, double & quad
  • 6, 8 and 14-bed mixed dorms
  • 6-bed female dorm
  • Family room

Alongside different themes, these rooms are super spacious and offer a cosy, homely vibe.

After a delicious breakfast from the local bakery, there’s lots to do in and out of the hostel.

There just to happens to be a bar on-site so you can wind down with your favourite drink.

Fancy some fresh air but don’t want to go far? Head out to the terrace, easy!

The sofas in the lounge are great for snuggling and enjoying the free Wi-Fi. Either that or catch up with Netflix.

Cook up a feast in the kitchen and direct any questions you may have toward the friendly staff. The reception has limited hours but when they’re open you can always expect a smile.

What about the cheapest hostels in Rotterdam?

Of course, there are always cheap hostels. But how do you actually find them? When you are traveling on a shoe-string budget and you want to save every dollar, there are ways to find the cheapest places in Rotterdam.

  1. Open Hostelz.com with a full list of all hostels in Rotterdam
  2. add your dates
  3. Order the listings by price

Simple as that.

Hostelz.com is a price comparison site for hostels. They list every single one in the world and tells you exactly which website is cheaper to use.

Another smart Tip: Check what is actually included, and what is excluded. Take a closer look at the location, too. A further location might mean more costs in transport.
