Sharing travel experiences and wine on BoutiQuito’s comfy Sofa

On my first evening at BoutiQuito Hostel, another guest was drinking wine in the common area, and offered me a glass. He had just got to Quito from the USA, and planned to do the route through South America that I have taken, but in reverse, including going through Bolivia and Argentina as I did two years ago. He wanted to know about every place I had been to, as he did not have a strict plan and wanted to choose his destinations based on the recommendations of other travellers. I gave him lots of advice and hostel recommendations, and

I have been to Merlin’s Camelot – Château de Pierrefonds in France

I’m a HUGE film and TV fan! It’s why I work in the industry for goodness sake! So when I was able to visit Château de Pierrefonds in France I was thrilled! Many of you may know it from the TV series ‘Merlin’ where it served as Camelot. Let me tell you, it is as magical as Merlin himself! I was just in awe of the castle! It’s tremendous and magnificently beautiful! Tucked in a small town in France, it’s not a big tourist attraction so I felt as if I had the castle to myself. I’d love to go back

Travel Memories as a Child vs. Adult – different world in Milan

I’ve travelled to Italy several times with my parents as a child but until now, haven’t returned by myself. On the plane I couldn’t wait to see it all again: the old men sitting on the street, beautifully dressed ladies strolling around, laundry drying in front of the windows, gelato everywhere. When I reached Milan I was confused: Where were the people who had been sitting on the streets? When did the ladies stop wearing nice dresses? All these pictures in my head – I couldn’t find them. Then, on my third day I walked into a supermarket to buy

When the Hostels Tag Line keeps its promise -BoutiQuito Hostel

I stayed at BoutiQuito Hostel in Quito for a few nights, went away to Laguna Quilotoa for a night, and then returned. Two Americans that were there at the same time as me happened to leave when I did, and then came back on the same day as me. I arrived late at night and was relieved to see familiar faces. We laughed that we had prooved the hostel’s tag line #youwillbeback to be correct! They had just got to Ecuador and were interested to hear about where I had been so far. I had been in Montañita before coming to

Once in Sayulita, Mexico, I told my Life Story to Paco the Dog

Two margaritas, some shots of the bartender’s prized tequila, two veggie tacos, now time to make it back to my tent on the beach.  The day was spent surfing the mild waves of Sayulita Mexico. My new best friend was a dog I named Paco who waited for me at the door of the bar and yes he liked that leftover veggie taco, there was no saving it for morning, he was insistent. That night I found myself telling my life story to Paco. I know he knew what I was talking about, I could tell by the way he looked

My Au Pair Experience was horrible - I traveled Europe instead

My Au Pair Experience was terrible – I traveled Europe instead

The taxi dropped me off at the Ostello Villa Olmo, a youth hostel in Como, Italy. Sore after carrying a heavy backpack on my back plus a large suitcase that was broken, I stumbled into the reception room. I had just fled a bad situation with a family I had au paired with. I thought things were going well, but then they started placing more and more demands on me until it got to the point where I couldn’t even go out with friends. Even that made them angry. I was expected to place their family first at all times.

I met my Fiancé thanks to Vikings and Bus Hostel Reykjavik

Last July (in 2014) I traveled by myself to Iceland. I arrived at the Bus Hostel Reykjavik in the evening, and the following day I walked around Reykjavik to do some sight-seeing. On the back of the map I got from the hostel, there was an ad for a museum about vikings. I decided to go there, and by the end of the tour you had the option of dressing up as a viking. I of course wanted to do this, and I also wanted a photograph of myself in said costume. So I walked up to a random guy and

An unexpected surprise at Bus Hostel Reykjavik – Hostel Story

It was only my intention to stay for one night at the Bus Hostel in Reykjavik, but when my bike – the one I was about to cycle around Iceland for 4 weeks – went missing, I ended up staying two. Little did I know I would meet a fellow bicycle traveller that night whom I got on splendidly with – we ended up sharing our first week together and had a blast; crossing rivers, wild camping and eating far too many cakes. I can safely say I got off at the right (bus) stop!
